Abstract
This final chapter summarises the sociological and theoretical makeup of the art world in Turkey and discusses the political responsibilities borne by artists, such as creating alternative public space, creating new forms of communicative democracy through arts, and the importance of producing alternative episteme in the art field. We highlight how artists—as the products of the social, cultural, and political contexts in which art is brought into the world—speak for the marginal and suppressed voices of the cultural geography they belong to. We finally draw attention to the complex relationship between contemporary art and feminist politics and further draw on the analysis to show how this complex relationship manifests itself in the formation of feminist art and making art spaces in Turkey more participatory, collaborative, inclusive, and gender-sensitive.
