Abstract
There are numerous empirical studies that analyze the information disclosed by large companies in their sustainability reports on their contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, little is known about small and medium-sized enterprises that do not elaborate and disclose sustainability reports. In this context, the aim of this chapter is to provide evidence about the commitment to the SDGs of small and medium-sized livestock enterprises in Extremadura, a Spanish region located in the center-west of the Iberian Peninsula, where livestock farming is one of the main sources of wealth. To this end, a survey was conducted among more than 100 companies in the spring of 2021. The results of this survey reveal the contribution to the SDGs of this extremely polluting sector and key to curb climate change as well as the most frequent drawbacks, the role of the pandemic Covid-19, and the demands to the authorities to achieve its transformation towards a clean and sustainable sector. These findings are particularly relevant for policymakers and academics in their struggle for a better world.
