Abstract
Hip fractures are extremely common in the United States and cause significant morbidity and mortality. They commonly occur in the elderly after a low-energy trauma, but they can also occur in the younger population after a high-energy trauma or as a stress fracture. Hip fractures are diagnosed radiographically, and the treatment is usually surgical. This chapter will review the different types of hip fractures and their unique considerations.
