Abstract
Having an appreciation of the psychosocial universe of a person with chronic kidney disease (CKD), will aid in the understanding of how that person will respond to the many challenges of the disease, as well as inform the types of interventions they may be likely to benefit from and engage in, including new technology. In order to improve treatment, interventions that are geared toward addressing anxiety and depression and those that will help promote patient engagement in their medical care are necessary and should be incorporated into CKD care models. In this chapter, the stressors of chronic kidney disease are described as well as ways in which to foster CKD patients’ increased acceptance of novel technologies.
