Abstract
Sufism is the mystical practice of Islam. It has long been part of Islamic culture since the establishment of the Muslim Caliphate. However, this practice reached its zenith under the Ottoman Empire because it managed to “capture the hearts and minds of a majority of the Sultan’s subjects, Muslim and non-Muslim alike”. Sheikh Ahmad Dijani, the Grand Sufi of Jerusalem, belonged to this mystical order of Islam. He captured the adoration of his followers and the admiration of Sultan Suleiman al-Qanuni, the Law Giver. This article will introduce Sheikh Ahmad Dijani al-Daoudi, whose life and work are being rediscovered by religious and secular intellectuals in the Muslim world.
