Abstract

It is well accepted that the Brostrom procedure is the gold standard surgical treatment for chronic lateral ankle instability. Despite good reported outcomes, there are limitations to the procedure, which has resulted in increased research seeking to optimize lateral ligament repair strength through augmentation. Autograft and allograft have been used for reconstruction but have inherent challenges. Various synthetic augmentation devices have been used over the decades to bolster the Brostrom procedure with increased complication rates. However, suture-tape augmentation has demonstrated the ability to safely augment the Brostrom repair with improved functional and clinical results.
