Abstract

The morphological conformation of Calabria presents itself in a singular way compared to other Italian regions and is the reason for the plurality of landscapes ranging from the mountain and hilly type to that of flat areas divided into alluvial, valleys and typically marine terraces. The territory from a geological and hydrogeological point of view is particularly unstable and subject to erosion, landslides, floods; these events, together with seismic phenomena, make some areas particularly dangerous.

To ensure accessibility to the internal areas of Calabria and to allow the inhabitants of small towns or villages adequate services and safety conditions even in emergency conditions, it is essential to have an overall redevelopment of the secondary road network and an enhancement of the “dirt roads”.

The dirt roads can represent an important resource for improving the accessibility of areas that are difficult to reach and also represent an important resource for tourist activities.
