Abstract

The updating of the Italian Road Cadastre is regulated by the D.M. 3484/2001 and currently takes place through the manual insertion on the WebGIS platform detected by geo-referenced territorial data detected thanks also to the Mobile Mapping System (MMS) technology.

This research illustrates an automated way of updating a rudimentary MMS system (which involves the installation of a camera on a vehicle equipped with a GPS system) and a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). Images processing takes place through specific algorithms (YOLO, SVM, Edge Detection, etc.). The test carried out highlighted some advantages in the use of drones, in particular a reduction in data acquisition and processing times.
