Abstract
The largest number of amputees use the so-called passive prosthetic devices, meaning that they do not have an external power source. These devices are using elastic or some other potential energy stored during a gait sequence and released in the next sequence. That causes problems in the case of movements requiring more power to perform, like climbing the stairs. The lack of muscles in the case of lower leg amputation makes it impossible to perform without the external power source.in order to overcome this problem, prosthetic devices for lower leg amputations must be externally powered in its knee and ankle joints. This paper describes the concept of a new type of 3D printed above-knee prosthesis with hydraulic system is integrated in the lower leg area of the above-knee prosthetic leg.
