Abstract
This chapter describes the theoretical foundation for using a relationship-based parent coaching approach to address emotional and behavioral difficulties in young children. I discuss humans’ biological predisposition for relationships and review seminal research on attachment theory and altruism. I discuss how we can tap into this biological predisposition through attachment priming. I describe the characteristics of secure, avoidant, ambivalent-resistant, and disorganized attachment.
