Abstract

Balloon catheter-assisted dilatation is an important tool available for addressing frontal sinus disease. However, a careful selection of candidates is mandatory. An adequate assessment of the underlying disease process and patient anatomy should be done.

Long-term results are good and medical evidence on its efficacy is solid, after several randomized controlled trials and meta-analysis. Technical advancement allows rhinologists to perform frontal balloon sinuplasty under local anesthesia in the office. Frontal balloon sinuplasty may serve as a stand-alone or complementary procedure for treating medically refractory chronic rhinosinusitis.
