Abstract
In this article we discuss the demographic dynamics modelling in communities of countries with different levels of economic development. Our approach is based on the stratum model of population growth, proposed by the authors earlier. The observed processes of depopulation of the periphery of such communities were studied within the framework of the model. The phenomenon of institutional trap is considered as an explanatory principle of the functioning of complex socio-economic structures. Its main traits are discussed. Based on the proposed model, the forecasts of population growth in several countries were calculated. Within the proposed model of institutional trap a set of measures to overcome the negative demographic trends were formulated.
