Abstract

Although computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) tools have been integrated into the surfboard production process in recent years, this process still relies on the expertise of the shapers, as several stages of the process are still done by hand. This can lead to manufacturing surfboards with geometric errors that can worsen their performance. Therefore, it is important to perform geometric inspections of surfboards. In view of the lack of methodologies and standards to perform geometric inspections of surfboards, this paper presents a methodology to perform this type of inspections using reverse engineering and 3D inspection tools.
