Definition

Domestic violence, a pervasive and deeply rooted social issue, presents itself as one of the most significant challenges in modern society. This phenomenon, which transcends geographical, cultural, and socio-economic boundaries, is characterized by a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship used by one partner to gain or maintain control over another intimate partner (Karmen, 2015; Spalek, 2017; Tennent, 2019; Walby et al., 2015). It is important to understand that domestic violence is not a recent development but a historical issue that has evolved over centuries. It has been deeply influenced by cultural norms, legal systems, and societal attitudes, which have historically fluctuated between acknowledgment and denial of its severity.
