Abstract
How can we simultaneously support innovation projects in higher education and facilitate certification for senior teaching staff under high work pressure? Educational programs are not only constellations of learning and teaching elements, they are also products of teaching teams led by team leaders. These leaders are crucial in bringing their teams together to improve, innovate, and implement the program as coherently as possible. This chapter describes how we use the Systemic Innovation in Education (SIE) model to support innovation while also giving leaders in teaching the opportunity to acquire certification needed for promotion in the organizational hierarchy of a research university. The SIE model consists of four phases from creation toward implementation, and suggests a path for leading innovation to improve learning environments.
