Subdural Hematoma

Abstract

Chronic subdural hematomas (CSDHs) are a common neurosurgical condition. Overall, this disease state is most common in the elderly population with a male preponderance. Headache, confusion, behavioral changes, gait disturbance, and motor deficits are the commonly encountered signs and symptoms seen in these patients. Symptoms related to elevated intracranial pressure may be more common in younger patients. There is a tendency for patients to present with left-sided hematomas. As SDHs become increasingly prevalent, it behooves the clinician to have a thorough understanding of their presentation in these patients.
