Abstract

A printed slot resonator for quad-band operation in laptop antenna is presented. The conducting slits of the proposed surface-mountable antenna, comprising of diverse lengths, are excited using the strip-line feed which is optimized for 50 Ω impedance matching. The dimension of the antenna is 0.86λ × 0.21λ mm2 at the lowest operating frequency. These dimensions are kept to match the typical laptop dimensions. This aids in ease in integration with laptops. The antenna is designed on a cost-effective FR4 substrate having a standard thickness of 1.56 mm. The excited resonances at all four frequencies have wideband widths in the order of 20.6%, 46.44%, 20.94%, and 7.26% for 1.57 GHz, 2.4 GHz, 3.5 GHz, and 5 GHz, respectively.
