Teaching and Learning to Co-create

Abstract

Once you invest yourself in a project based on collaborative writing, you realize how complex and multilayered this approach to writing can be. Collaborative writing is both product-oriented and process-oriented, and it is necessary for your group to successfully navigate through different stages to produce one final piece of writing. In this chapter, we will share our experience with the Trans-Atlantic & Pacific Project that involved the collaborative writing of a grant proposal.

The aim of this chapter is to present three aspects of academic growth through collaborative writing. First, we describe how the writing process matured through constructive editing. Then, we focus on collaboration, communication, and our joint effort in achieving a mutual goal. Finally, we present our point of view regarding how collaborative writing contributed to our personal and professional growth. We hope that this chapter will motivate other students to choose collaborative writing as a way to achieve academic maturation.
