Abstract
This chapter aims to go through seminal literature which includes several large longitudinal population-based studies, review articles, and some qualitative studies showing women’s experiences with eating disorders prior to pregnancy, during pregnancy, and in the postpartum period. In general, eating disorders can negatively affect a pregnancy and health of the mother and fetus. These mothers are often at risk for postpartum depression, and their children may be at greater risk for disordered eating. Women with eating disorders often initiate breastfeeding as often as controls, and yet they stop breastfeeding earlier than controls.
