Abstract
The International Symposium on Spermatology (ISS) is the meeting of researchers working on various problems of male gamete, spermatozoa, in the world. The first meeting was organized by Baccio Baccetti (University of Siena) in Siena and Rome in 1969. Since then ISS has been held every 4 years, changing its venue in Europe, America, Asia, Australia, and Africa. The themes adopted at ISS have also changed from morphological one to functional and molecular ones, and from basic to applied field, together with the remarkable development in studies on spermatozoa and in reproductive biology. This chapter deals with the features of such a change in the history of ISS for these 50 years.
