Abstract

The major role of an anesthesiologist is to provide analgesia, sedation and often amnesia during operative procedures, labor and delivery, and areas such as radiology and endoscopy. Anesthesiologists are responsible for the preoperative assessment of the patient, the intraoperative monitoring and control of the patient’s cardiovascular, pulmonary, and renal homeostasis, and postoperative care and pain control.
