Abstract
Recent studies have focused on not only the accuracy but also the shortcomings of MRI in the diagnosis of glomus tumors of the extremities. MRI is poorly helpful for the management of visible lesions with characteristics symptoms but is relevant in doubtful or multiple lesions and in recurrent cases after surgery. A deficient MRI technique can lead to low negative predictive value. Performances of MRI may be improved with MR angiography and enhancement curves after intravenous injection of gadolinium. Glomangiomas are distinguished from solid glomus tumors by the predominant vascular component and less defined limits. Roughly 10% of glomus tumors are multiple and maybe the cause of recurrence. Detection of multiple glomus tumors should raise suspicion for a concurrent diagnosis of neurofibromatosis type 1.
