Abstract

The second part of the Anthology reconstructs a more recent and empirical tradition of thought that emerged in the twentieth century between the 60s and the beginning of the 90s from the direct observation of different contexts and case-studies developed by a group of scholars confronted with radically changing urban conditions.

Notes

  1. 1.

This text takes up and extends my text “The Horizontal Metropolis Deux ou trois choses que je sais d’elle”, in N. Katsikis with F. Farinelli, A.Lahoud, P. Viganò, A. Wall, Geo-Graphical Urbanism. In L. Degli Esposti (Ed.) (2015).

  2. 2.

Published in 1839 with the title: L’Économie sociale: des intérêts du commerce, de l’industrie et de l’agriculture, et de la civilisation en général, sous l’influence des applications de la vapeur, Paris: Desessart.

  3. 3.

Coined around 1920, by Siegfried Passarge (1867–1958) (Die Grundlagen der Landschaftskunde, Hamburg 1920/21), also author of Stadtlandschaften der Erde (Hamburg 1930), Stadtlandschaft is today a term reinterpreted keeping a distance from the context in which it was proposed. I always thank Thomas Sievert for the precious insight. See also: Mantziaras (2008).

  4. 4.

“Ipotesi sull’area centrale veneta. La città diffusa”, research funded by the Mpi 60%, 1987.
