Intimate Partner Violence

Abstract

Many factors play into intimate partner violence, and finding resources to escape from an abusive relationship is often difficult. Cultural background and acculturative stress can play a major role in exacerbating the abuse as well as delaying the decision to leave the abusive relationship. For those who are immigrants, language difficulties, lack of social support, and legal status can further hinder help-seeking behavior. This chapter explores how being in a Hispanic milieu effects domestic violence dynamics.
