Introduction/Definition
City planning represents a key intersectional point for environmental, equity, and economic considerations. These critical issues are the pillars of sustainable development, and are reflected in The United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (2015) as a transformative cross-sectoral agenda, whereof planning plays a key role. Whilst such a broad agenda offers direction for city planning it also presents challenges due to the complexities of information to be considered by planning professionals and community members alike. There is growing recognition that collaborative planning approaches are the best way to address planning decisions relating to trade-offs, uncertainty, and equity inherent in a sustainable development agenda and future-orientated decisions (Somarakis & Stratigea, 2019; Soomro, Khan and Ludlow, no date; Schulz & Newig, 2015).
