Abstract

In this chapter we will present the knowledge and beliefs of the early, pre-Christian Slavs about sexuality and psycho-sexual development of a human being, and discuss some behavioral aspects of their sexual life such as rituals. The Slavic vision of human sexuality will be explored in two distinct areas: the specificity of Slavic sexuality—polygamy, extramarital sex perceived as a desirable activity, etc., and the reconstruction of the psycho-sexual developmental model (six stages) based on Slavic rites of passage. We will analyse the naturalistic/biocentric approach to human life, reproduction as the main human task during their lifetime, and the crucial meaning of women in Slavic metaphysics of sexuality.
