Abstract

We all live our lives within certain boundary conditions set by our society, and I believe, in many cases, those conditions are more restrictive for women. My career trajectory has not been quite linear: from graduating with all my degrees in Chemistry to becoming a professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and from working in a startup company to returning to academia. My general research interests are in the area of semiconductor materials and devices. My current research focus includes developing innovative 3D structures and devices through both bottom-up growth and top-down nanofabrication approaches to bring lasting impact to the fields of electronics, photonics, nanotechnology, and quantum technology, as well as human health. In this chapter, I attempt to highlight some periods of my life, including those where being female was an element that could not have been ignored, and shine some light on how it is entirely possible to step out of comfort zones, push the boundaries, and embrace opportunities to shape one’s career path.
