Abstract
The last chapter in the first part of the book discusses Polish musicals of the postcommunist period. Its resurgence took place in the 2010s, reflecting the global trend of production of lavish musicals and the founding of the Polish Film Institute in 2005, whose support allows the shooting of films with higher budgets. Some of the trends identified include setting musicals in the period of the PRL, although presenting it without nostalgia and recycling songs popular during this time, production of the female-friendly and female-centred musicals. The new Polish musicals seem also to be made with an awareness and expectation that songs which feature will end up on YouTube.
