Management of Severe Traumatic Brain Injury

Abstract

This review describes the Uppsala neurointensive care unit as a platform for advanced clinical research with focus on organization and staffing of the unit, multimodality monitoring, and computerized data acquisition and analysis systems. We specifically address high-resolution waveform data analysis for monitoring of autoregulation and compliance and cerebral microdialysis as an important part of multimodality monitoring for identification of subtypes of energy metabolic crisis in the aftermath of TBI, as well as new possibilities of protein profiling of complex secondary brain injury pathways.
