Abstract

This chapter will focus on treatment factors related to juvenile homicide . Literature related to the treatment is sparse, providing little direction for prevention, intervention , and postvention. Findings suggest that the mental health needs of the majority of these perpetrators are not consistently addressed, creating grave consequences for our youth and society collectively. Treatment of homicidal youth will be summarized, including a review of psychotherapy , psychiatry, psychiatric hospitalizations , and former institutionalizations. Suggestions for future research as it relates to treatment and both clinical and societal implications will be discussed.
