Abstract
The Arab World refers to 22 countries and the people and the region are markedly inhomogeneous, and its food habits and other characteristics profoundly impact the health of its people. The region also has marked disparity between the highest GDP ranking countries in the world to those who rank as the lowest. The population in this region has tripled but the healthcare facilities mainly in the economically vulnerable regions have kept up with its growing population. Governments in these countries face some challenges and hurdles on the inhibit-equitable distribution of healthcare system to all. This chapter provides a broad overview of health care in the region and examines the existing facilities and their shortcomings. The chapter highlights the plight of healthcare systems from UAE to Somalia and Mauritania and suggests some benchmarking issues that need the attention of the policymakers.
