Clinical Assessment of Child and Adolescent Personality and Behavior

Abstract

This chapter focuses on some important clinical issues involved in planning and conducting psychological evaluations with children and adolescents. Topics include a discussion of how to plan a focused evaluation that addresses the reason that the child was referred for testing. Topics also include how planning an evaluation should be based on the most current research available in development psychopathology. The chapter also provides a discussion of important issues for developing and maintaining rapport with children and adolescents, in a way that optimizes the validity of the test results. Specific suggestions for building rapport with children and adolescents of different ages are provided.
