Abstract

There are many FACTS controllers in service throughout the world. They are typically controlled automatically, according to settings determined by the system operator. This chapter provides information obtained from a survey performed by CIGRE Study Committee C2, System Operation and Control. It provides information about the role of FACTS controllers in an AC system, the need for training of the system operators, how the FACTS controllers are operated, and the need for monitoring, upgrading, and eventual retirement of the FACTS controller.
