Abstract

Choledochal cysts are congenital cystic dilatations of the biliary tree which can involve the extrahepatic biliary ducts, the intrahepatic biliary ducts, or both. Most patients with choledochal cysts are diagnosed during infancy or childhood. Approximately 67% of patients with choledochal cysts present before the age of 10 years. The classification, etiology, diagnosis and management are discussed.
