Abstract
Textile wastewater is one of the most polluted types of wastewater because it contains a big quantity of dye. This paper illustrates the treatment of dyes using an electrocoagulation (EC) process with a rotating anode. The effects of various operational parameters such as rotational speed of the anode, current intensity and contact time on the removal efficiency of contaminants in terms of color and chemical oxygen demand (COD) were examined. Total cost was 1.524 LE for treating one cubic meter of synthetic wastewater for initial concentration of dye 200 mg/l using 13 V and 0.4 A at 20 rpm rotational speed of anode. At this condition, the removal efficiency of dye and COD were 88.9% and 82.4%, respectively. COD values reduced from 280 to 49.28 mg/l. Based on COD values; it is possible to discharge the waste water directly on the water bodies according to the Egyptian law 92 for year 2013.
