Definition
Longevity advocacy refers to the active promotion of biomedical interventions to modify the intrinsic rate of aging for human benefit. Standard definitions of advocates and advocacy describe persons who defend or espouse the interests of a cause or a group. The concept of longevity advocacy goes beyond those scientists who investigate the causes of aging to include political, social, journalistic, and financial activities intended to advance research in aging and the development of modalities to slow or ameliorate age-related illness by manipulating the underlying biology of aging itself. Individuals or organizations and professionals or laypersons may participate in such advocacy, recognizing that in democratic societies scientific opportunity is not the sole determinant of research priorities but so too are the needs and aspirations of affected populations when those are effectively expressed and...
