Abstract
Surgical management of the biliary system is a valuable and necessary skill set for the practicing general surgeon. Laparoscopic common bile duct exploration (LCBDE) is a technique that allows for concomitant management of both the gallbladder and stones within the biliary ductal system. This approach offers the potential benefits of fewer procedures, decreased cost, and short hospital stays. This chapter provides an in-depth discussion of LCBDE including patient selection, operating room setup, technical aspects of both transcystic and transcholedocal approaches, and outcomes.
