Abstract

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation represents a paradigm shift in the management of aortic valve stenosis, thanks to its superiority over medical therapy and its similar effectiveness in comparison to surgery. Moreover, its steadfast progress from inception to maturity represents a luminous example for the introduction, testing, and adoption of novel minimally invasive technologies for structural heart disease, but also for cardiovascular disease at large. In addition, it is transparent that such achievements were instrumentally based on a cooperative and enthusiastic collaboration between noninvasive cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, and intensive care unit specialists. We indeed hope that this book, entirely devoted to the fascinating topic of transcatheter aortic valve implantation and including contributions from global experts stemming from many different specialties and subspecialties, will prompt readers to master the details and techniques of this therapy, while fostering collaboration and teamwork.
