Introduction

In addition to other marine resources, the West and Central African façade of the Atlantic Ocean is abundantly rich in fish biomass (UNEP 2016; Okafor-Yarwood 2019; Okafor-yarwood et al. 2020), with countries having several shared fish stocks. However, myriad challenges confront the sustainability of these resources including overfishing by foreign vessels; poor management of fisheries stocks; low participation of stakeholders in fisheries management; and illegal, unregulated, and unreported fishing (IUU fishing) activities. Overcoming these challenges in a sustainable manner, therefore, calls for regional as well as international cooperation.
