Abstract

Image-guided catheter drainage has become the treatment of choice for most pelvic abscesses developing secondary to recent surgery, pelvic inflammatory disease, perforated appendicitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and perforated diverticulitis. Percutaneous abscess drainage is curative in more than 80% of the cases.1 In other cases, percutaneous abscess drainage may play a role in managing critically ill patients improving their sepsis while they get better in order to undergo definitive surgery.
