Differential Diagnosis: Nonmesothelial Tumors of the Serosal Cavity: Sarcomas

  • Chapter
Pathology of Malignant Mesothelioma

Abstract

Synovial sarcoma (SSs) consist of biphasic and monophasic types (Figure 12.1 and Figure 12.2). Most SSs reported in the pleural cavity have been biphasic, whereas in the lung most of the tumors have been monophasic [1, 2].

Monophasic synovial sarcoma, showing small dark cells and relatively paucicellular myxoid areas.

Monophasic synovial sarcoma, showing fascicles of dark spindle cells.
