Abstract
Since sex functions in much the same way across cultures, it is also reasonable to assume that dysfunction will as well. However, the importance of culture in understanding and treating sexual problems lies in understanding the context in which the dysfunction occurs and also in recognizing the breadth of the sexual issues with which patients from diverse cultures present themselves. This chapter will outline the experience of sexual difficulties cross-culturally and will suggest a model for cultural sensitivity when treating patients from disparate cultural backgrounds.
