Abstract
As war grips Europe and Asia, the observatory and staff are put into service aid in the war effort. Milt works to protect his family from the ravages of the conflict’s effect on the homeland. When Billy’s new wife, Ruth, contracts tuberculosis in the early stages of the war, he must leave their young daughter with her grandparents while he tends to his wife’s ailment. As the war ends the observatory gets back to completing the Hale Telescope on Mt Palomar.
