Abstract
The contemporary world is in psychological crisis. There is a pervasive sense of powerlessness and purposelessness, alienation from self and others, enormous fear and suffering, and a dangerous rise in sadistic and self-destructive behavior. Nihilism, depression, addiction, and oppression have reached epidemic proportions. In such a psychological climate it is not an exaggeration to speak of selves-at-risk.
