An Experimental Model for Acute Post-Streptococcal Glomerulonephritis in Mice

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 418))

Abstract

Several streptococcal factors have been implicated in the pathogenesis of acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis (APSGN)2–8. The lack of a reliable animal model has made it difficult to further examine their role in the pathogenetic process. The aim of this study was to develop an animal model for the induction of APSGN and investigate a possible relation between in vivo production of certain streptococcal factors and the nephritis process.
