Abstract
The disorders of sexual differentiation consist of a group of diverse disorders. They occur as a consequence of failure in the generation of the normal signals required for proper differentiation. In some instances, these disorders can be recognized at birth, but in many instances they manifest at the time of puberty with hypogonadism. To understand the varied mechanisms that underlie this fascinating group of disorders, it is essential to review the basic principles involved in the normal differentiation of the fetus into the male or female infant.
