Abstract

Based on formation of lesions on Petunia X hybrida, western flower thrips (WFT) transmitted two Tospovirus isolates as second instars and the LP50 decreased with increasing temperatures. Specificity of transmission was established by testing four thrips species and four virus isolates. WFT transmitted all isolates efficiently. A dark form of Frankliniella schultzei transmitted three. This is the first report of F. intonsa as a vector for tospoviruses. Thrips tabaci did not transmit the isolates tested.
