Abstract
Turkey is a country situated on the European (Thracia) and Asian (Asia Minor = Anatolia) continents with a surface area of 790,000 km2. The flora of Turkey is very rich owing to its geographical position and to the climatic variations. There are approximately 10,000 plant species of which 2,700 are endemic (Davis, 1988). Many of these plants have been used in traditional medicine for centuries (Baytop, 1984).
