Laxative Abuse as a Cause for Ammonium-Urate Renal Calculi

Abstract

A patient with laxative abuse had four pure ammonium-urate renal calculi over a period of three years. In order to identify common chemical abnormalities and determine the pathophysiology of this type of calculus, studies were performed on this patient and eight others, all female, who had 50% or more ammonium urate in a stone.
