Abstract
A new method for controlling the center wavelength, bandwidth, and spectral profile of a fiber Bragg grating is described. A piezo-electric transducer is used to impose an arbitrary strain distribution on an attached grating. This allows the synthesis of a wide range of tunable filters and dispersion compensation devices.
